If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand forget how to play the harp.
May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth
if I fail to remember you,
if I don't make Jerusalem my greatest joy.
Lamentations 4:4
The parched tongues of their little ones
stick to the roofs of their mouths in thirst.
The children cry for bread,
but no one has any to give them. (see Lamentations 4:1-10)
Nehemiah 2:1-3
Early the following spring, in the month of Nisan, during the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes' reign, I was serving the king his wine. I had never before appeared sad in his presence. So the king asked me, "Why are you looking so sad? You don't look sick to me. You must be deeply troubled."
Then I was terrified, but I replied, "Long live the king! How can I not be sad? For the city where my ancestors are buried is in ruins, and the gates have been destroyed by fire." (see all Nehemiah 1 and 2)
Jeremiah 51:49-50
"Just as Babylon killed the people of Israel
and others throughout the world,
so must her people be killed.
Get out, all you who have escaped the sword!
Do not stand and watch--flee while you can!
Remember the LORD, though you are in a far-off land,
and think about your home in Jerusalem." (see Jeremiah 51:45-53)
Ezekiel 6:8-10
"But I will let a few of my people escape destruction, and they will be scattered among the nations of the world. Then when they are exiled among the nations, they will remember me. They will recognize how hurt I am by their unfaithful hearts and lustful eyes that long for all their idols. Then at last they will hate themselves for all their detestable sins. They will know that I alone am the LORD and that I was serious when I said I would bring this calamity on them." (see all Ezekiel 6)
