Psalm 137:1-4

Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept
    as we thought of Jerusalem.
We put away our harps,
hanging them on the branches of poplar trees.
For our captors demanded a song from us.
Our tormentors insisted on a joyful hymn:
"Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!"
But how can we sing the songs of the LORD
    while in a pagan land?

Lamentations 2:13-15
What can I say about you?
Who has ever seen such sorrow?
O daughter of Jerusalem,
to what can I compare your anguish?
O virgin daughter of Zion,
    how can I comfort you?
For your wound is as deep as the sea.
    Who can heal you?
Your prophets have said
so many foolish things, false to the core.
They did not save you from exile
    by pointing out your sins.
Instead, they painted false pictures,
    filling you with false hope.
All who pass by jeer at you.
They scoff and insult beautiful Jerusalem, saying,
"Is this the city called 'Most Beautiful in All the World'
and 'Joy of All the Earth'?"
Lamentations 3:19-20
The thought of my suffering and homelessness
    is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
Lamentations 3:45-47
"You have discarded us as refuse and garbage
    among the nations.
All our enemies
    have spoken out against us.
We are filled with fear,
for we are trapped, devastated, and ruined."
Lamentations 5:15-17
Joy has left our hearts;
our dancing has turned to mourning.
The garlands have fallen from our heads.
Weep for us because we have sinned.
Our hearts are sick and weary,
and our eyes grow dim with tears.  (see all Lamentations)

Give thanks to the God of heaven.
    His faithful love endures forever.

He gives food to every living thing. His faithful love endures forever.
Genesis 1:29-30

2 Chronicles 36:22-23
In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the LORD fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:
"This is what King Cyrus of Persia says:
"The LORD, the God of heaven has given me all of the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Any of  you who are his people may go there for this task. And may the LORD your God be with you!"  (see Ezra 1, and Jeremiah 29)
