The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
                                     His mercies never cease.

"O LORD, think about this!
Should you treat your own people this way?
Should mothers eat their own children,
those they once bounced on their knees?
Should priests and prophets be killed
    within the Lord's Temple?
See them lying in the streets--
    young and old,
boys and girls,
killed by the swords of the enemy.
You have killed them in your anger,
    slaughtering them without mercy.
You have invited terrors from all around,
as though you were calling them to a day of feasting.
In the day of the LORD's anger,
no one has escaped or survived.
The enemy has killed all the children
    whom I carried and raised."

"You have invited terrors from all around, as though you were calling them to a day of feasting."

    you people of the earth.

and those who escape the trap will be caught in a snare.  (see all Isaiah 24)

"In the day of the LORD's anger, no one has escaped or survived."

"Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am going to bring calamity upon them, and they will not escape. Though they beg for mercy, I will not listen to their cries."  (see Jeremiah 11:1-17)

but the children will die in war or starve to death."  (see all Job 27)

and I will never see them again.  (see all Jeremiah 10)
Jeremiah 16:1-4
The LORD gave me another message. "Do not get married or have children in this place. For this is what the LORD says about the children born here in this city and about their mothers and fathers: They will die from terrible diseases. No one will mourn for them or bury them, and they will lie scattered on the ground like manure. They will die from war and famine, and their bodies will be food for the vultures and wild animals."  (see all Jeremiah 16)

    and inside, terror will strike
both young men and young women,
both infants and the aged.' "  (see Deuteronomy 32:19-27)
2 Chronicles 36:17
So the LORD brought the king of Babylon against them. The Babylonians killed Judah's young men, even chasing after them into the Temple. They had no pity on the people, killing both young men and young women, the old and the infirm. God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar.
(see 2 Chronicles 36:11-21)
Psalm 78:62-63
He gave his people over to be butchered by the sword,

To whom can I give warning?
Who will listen when I speak?
Their ears are closed,
    and they cannot hear.
They scorn the word of the LORD.
They don't want to listen at all.
So now I am filled with the LORD's fury.
Yes, I am tired of holding it in!

and on gatherings of young men,
on husbands and wives
and on those who are old and gray."  (see Jeremiah 6:1-15)

"Then tell them, 'No, this is what the LORD means: I will fill everyone in this land with drunkenness--from the king sitting on David's throne to the priests and the prophets, right down to the common people of Jerusalem. I will smash them against each other, even parents against children, says the LORD. I will not let my pity or mercy or compassion keep me from destroying them.' "  (see Jeremiah 13:8-14)

But it is the LORD who did just as he planned.
He has fulfilled the promises of disaster
    he made long ago.
He has destroyed Jerusalem without mercy.
He has caused her enemies to gloat over her
and has given them power over her.
Cry aloud before the Lord,
    O walls of beautiful Jerusalem!
Let your tears flow like a river
    day and night.
Give yourselves no rest;
    give your eyes no relief.
Rise during the night and cry out.
Pour out your hearts like water to the Lord.
Lift up your hands to him in prayer,
    pleading for your children,
for in every street
    they faint with hunger.

Cry aloud before the Lord, O walls of beautiful Jerusalem! Let your tears flow like a river day and night. Give yourselves no rest; give your eyes no relief.

    tears flow down my cheeks.
No one is here to comfort me;
any who might encourage me are far away.
My children have no future,
for the enemy has conquered us."
Lamentations 2:8
The LORD was determined
to destroy the walls of beautiful Jerusalem.
He made careful plans for their destruction,
then did what he had planned.
Therefore, the ramparts and walls
    have fallen down before him.

Rise during the night and cry out. Pour out your hearts like water to the Lord. Lift up your hands to him in prayer, pleading for your children, for in every street they faint with hunger.
1 Samuel 1:15-16
"Oh no, sir!" she replied. "I haven't been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the LORD. Don't think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow."  (see all 1 Samuel 1)
Psalm 42:3-4
Day and night I have only tears for food,
while my enemies continually taunt me, saying,
"Where is this God of yours?"

leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks
amid the sound of great celebration!  (see all Psalm 42)

Lamentations 2:11
I have cried until tears no longer come;
    my heart is broken.
My spirit is poured out in agony
as I see the desperate plight of my people.
Little children and tiny babies
are fainting and dying in the streets.

                                     His mercies never cease.
                                    Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
                                        Lamentations 3:22-23

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely
with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow
with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

What can I say about you?
Who has ever seen such sorrow?
O daughter of Jerusalem,
to what can I compare your anguish?
O virgin daughter of Zion,
    how can I comfort you?
For your wound is as deep as the sea.
    Who can heal you?
Your prophets have said
so many foolish things, false to the core.
They did not save you from exile
    by pointing out your sins.
Instead they painted false pictures,
    filling you with false hope.

Your prophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from exile by pointing out your sins. Instead they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope.  (continued)
Jeremiah 23:25-27
"I have heard these prophets say, 'Listen to the dream I had from God last night.' And then they proceed to tell lies in my name. How long will this go on? If they are prophets, they are prophets of deceit, inventing everything they say. By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me, just as their ancestors did by worshiping the idols of Baal."
Jeremiah 23:30-32
"Therefore," says the LORD, "I am against these prophets who steal messages from each other and claim they are from me. I am against these smooth-tongued prophets who say, 'This prophecy is from the LORD!' I am against these false prophets. Their imaginary dreams are flagrant lies that lead my people into sin. I did not send or appoint them, and they have no message at all for my people. I, the LORD, have spoken!"  (see all Jeremiah 23)
Jeremiah 28:15-17
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah, "Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, but the people believe your lies. Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'You must die. Your life will end this very year because you have rebelled against the LORD.' "
Two months later the prophet Hananiah died.  (see all Jeremiah 28)
Jeremiah 29:8-9
This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel says: "Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams, because they are telling you lies in my name. I have not sent them," says the LORD.  (see all Jeremiah 29)
Ezekiel 13:2-3
"Son of man, prophesy against the false prophets of Israel who are inventing their own prophecies. Say to them, 'Listen to the word of the LORD. This is what the Sovereign LORD says: What sorrow awaits the false prophets who are following their own imaginations and have seen nothing at all!' "
(see all Ezekiel 13)
