Habakkuk 3:1-2

This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk: I have heard all about you, LORD. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.

 

I have heard all about you, LORD.

Job 26:14 "These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?" (see all chapter 26)

Job 36:26  "Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted." (see verses 22-33)

Job 42:5  "I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes." (see verses 1-6)

Psalm 44:1  O God, we have heard it with our own ears--our ancestors have told us of all you did in their day, in days long ago: (see verses 1-8)

 

I am filled with awe by your amazing works. 

Psalm 119:120  I tremble in fear of you; I stand in awe of your regulations.

Jeremiah 10:7  Who would not fear you, O King of nations? The title belongs to you alone! Among all the wise people of the earth and in all the kingdoms of the world, there is no one like you. (see verses 6-10)

 

In this time our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. 

Psalm 80:18  Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more. (see all chapter 80)

Psalm 85:6  Won't you revive us again, so your people can rejoice with you? (see verses 1-7)

Psalm 90:16  Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory.

 

And in your anger remember your mercy. 

Isaiah 1:15  "When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look. Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims." (see all chapter 1)

Isaiah 26:20  Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide yourselves for a little while until the LORD's anger has past. (see verses 16-21)

"What good is an idol carved by a man, or a cast image that deceives you? How foolish to trust in your own creation--a god that can't even talk! What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols, 'Wake up and save us!' To speechless stone images you say, 'Rise up and teach us!' Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside. But the LORD is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him."

"But the LORD is in his holy Temple."

Psalm 11:4  But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth. (see all chapter 11)

Micah 1:2  Attention! Let all the people of the world listen! Let the earth and everything in it hear. The Sovereign LORD is making accusations against you; the Lord speaks from his holy Temple. (see all chapter 1)

Zephaniah 1:7  Stand in silence in the presence of the Sovereign LORD, for the awesome day of the LORD's judgment is near. The LORD has prepared his people for a great slaughter and has chosen their executioners. (see all chapter 1)

Jeremiah 10:3-5  "Their ways are futile and foolish. They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol. They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won't fall over. Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good." (see all chapter 10)

Hosea 13:2  Now they continue to sin by making silver idols, images shaped skillfully with human hands. "Sacrifice to these," they cry, "and kiss the calf idols!" (see all chapter 13)

Revelation 9:20  But the people who did not die in these plagues (see verses 18-19)  still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood--idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! (see all chapter 9)

Isaiah 41:21 "Present the case for your idols," says the LORD. "Let them show what they can do," says the King of Israel. (see verses 6-7, 21-24)

Isaiah 44:9  How foolish are those who manufacture idols. These prized objects are really worthless. The people who worship idols don't know this, so they are all put to shame. (see verses 9-20)

 

"How foolish to trust in your own creation--a god that can't even talk!" 

Isaiah 44:10  Who but a fool would make his own god--an idol that cannot help him one bit?

Isaiah 44:19  The person who made the idol never stops to reflect, "Why, it's just a block of wood! I burned half of it for heat and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat. How can the rest of it be a god? Should I bow down to worship a piece of wood?"

Jeremiah 10:14  The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power. (see verses 11-16)

Hosea 4:12  "They ask a piece of wood for advice! They think a stick can tell them the future! Longing after idols has made them foolish. They have played the prostitute, serving other gods and deserting their God." (see all chapter 4)

Psalm 97:7  Those who worship idols are disgraced--all who brag about their worthless gods--for every god must bow to him (the Lord of all the earth). (see all Psalm 97)

Isaiah 44:17  Then he takes what is left (see verse 16) and makes his god: a carved idol! He falls down in front of it, worshiping and praying to it. "Rescue me!" he says. "You are my god!"

"What sorrow awaits you who make your neighbors drunk! You force your cup on them so you can gloat over their shameful nakedness. But soon it will be your turn to be disgraced. Come, drink and be exposed! Drink from the cup of the LORD's judgment, and all your glory will be turned to shame. You cut down the forests of Lebanon. Now you will be cut down. You destroyed the wild animals, now their terror will be yours. You committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence."

Ezekiel 23:32-34  "Yes, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "You will drink from your sister's cup of terror, a cup that is large and deep. It is filled to the brim with scorn and derision. Drunkenness and anguish will fill you, for your cup is filled to the brim with distress and desolation, the same cup your sister Samaria drank. You will drain that cup of terror to the very bottom. Psalm 137:8  O Babylon, you will be destroyed. Happy is the one who pays you back for what you have done to us. (see all chapter 137)

Jeremiah 50:43  "The king of Babylon has heard reports about the enemy, and he is weak with fright. Pangs of anguish have gripped him, like those of a woman in labor." (see verses 39-46)

Genesis 9:20-23  After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard. One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and went outside and told his brothers. Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked.

Proverbs 20:1  Wine produces mockers; alcohol leads to brawls. Those led astray by drink cannot be wise. (see also Isaiah 23:29-35)

Isaiah 56:12  "Come," they say, "let's get some wine and have a party. Let's all get drunk. Then tomorrow we'll do it again and have an even bigger party!" (see also Isaiah 5:11-12, 22)

Jeremiah 51:7  Babylon has been a gold cup in the LORD's hands, a cup that made the whole earth drunk. The nations drank Babylon's wine, and it drove them all mad.

Isaiah 28:1  What sorrow awaits the proud city of Samaria--the glorious crown of the drunks of Israel. It sits at the head of a fertile valley, but its glorious beauty will fade like a flower. It is the pride of a people brought down by wine. (see verses 1-4)

Isaiah 28:7  Now, however, Israel is led by drunks who reel with wine and stagger with alcohol. The priests and prophets stagger with alcohol and lose themselves in wine. They reel when they see visions and stagger as they render decisions. (see verses 7-15)

Jeremiah 25:15  This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: "Take from my hand this cup filled to the brim with my anger, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it. (see verses 15-38)

Obadiah 16  "Just as you swallowed up my people on my holy mountain, so you and the surrounding nations will swallow the punishment I pour out on all of you. Yes, all you nations will drink and stagger and disappear from history. (see verses 15-18)

Micah 2:11  Suppose a prophet full of lies would say to you, "I'll preach to you the joys of wine and alcohol!" That's just the kind of prophet you would like! (see verses 1-11)

"What sorrow awaits you who build cities with money gained through murder and corruption! Has not the LORD of Heaven's Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes? They work so hard, but all in vain! For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the LORD."

Isaiah 47:11 "So disaster will overtake you (Babylon), and you won't be able to charm it away. Calamity will fall upon you, and you won't be able to buy your way out. A catastrophe will strike you suddenly, one for which you are not prepared." (see all chapter 47)

Jeremiah 51:58  This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: "The thick walls of Babylon will be leveled to the ground, and her massive gates will be burned. The builders from many lands have worked in vain, for their work will be destroyed by fire!" (see verses 54-58)
