Psalm 124:1-8 Part 1 of 4

What if the LORD had not been on our side?
    Let all Israel repeat:
What if the LORD had not been on our side
    when people attacked us?
They would have swallowed us alive
    in their burning anger.
The waters would have engulfed us;
a torrent would have overwhelmed us.
Yes, the raging waters of their fury
would have overwhelmed our very lives.

Praise the LORD,
who did not let their teeth tear us apart!
We escaped like a bird from a hunter's trap.
The trap is broken, and we are free!
Our help is from the LORD,
    who made heaven and earth.

What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat: What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us?
Psalm 94:17
Unless the LORD had helped me,
I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave.  (see all Psalm 94)
Psalm 129:1-2
From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me.
    Let all Israel repeat this:
From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me,
but they have never defeated me.  (see all Psalm 129)
Jeremiah 15:20
"They will fight against you like an attacking army,
but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze.
They will not conquer you,
for I am with you to protect and rescue you.
I, the LORD, have spoken!"  (see all Jeremiah 15)

They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger.
Psalm 56:1-2
O God, have mercy on me,
    for people are hounding me.
My foes attack me all day long.
I am constantly hounded by those who slander me,
and many are boldly attacking me.  (see all Psalm 56)
Psalm 57:3
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
    disgracing those who hound me.
My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.  (see all Psalm 57)
