Luke 23:13-16

Then Pilate called together the leading priests and other religious leaders, along with the people, and he announced his verdict. "You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in your presence and find him innocent. Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty. So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him."

Luke 24:20 "But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him." (see verses 13-36)

Luke 23:4 Pilate turned to the leading priests and to the crowd and said, "I find nothing wrong with this man!"

Luke 23:22 For the third time he demanded, "Why? What crime has he committed? I have found no reason to sentence him to death. So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him."

Matthew 27:23 "Why?" Pilate demanded. "What crime has he committed?" But the mob roared even louder, "Crucify him!"

John 19:1-4 Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him. "Hail! King of the Jews!" they mocked, as they slapped him across the face. Pilate went outside again and said to the people, "I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty."

Luke 23:8-12

Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle. He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer. Meanwhile, the leading priests and the teachers of religious law stood there shouting their accusations. Then Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Finally, they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate. (Herod and Pilate, who had been enemies before, became friends that day.)

Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle.

Mark 6:14 Herod Antipas, the king, soon heard about Jesus, because everyone was talking about him. Some were saying, "This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead. That is why he can do such miracles." [see verses 14-29]

He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

Matthew 27:12 But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. [see verses 11-14]

Mark 14:61 But Jesus was silent and made no reply. Then the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" [see verses 53-65]

John 19:9 He [Pilate] took Jesus back into the headquarters again and asked him, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave no answer. [see verses 7-12]

Matthew 27:19 Just then, as Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: "Leave that innocent man alone. I suffered through a terrible nightmare about him last night." [see verses 11-26]

Mark 15:6 Now it was the governor's custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner--anyone the people requested. [see verses 1-15]

John 19:2 The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him. [see verses 1-16]

Luke 23:5-7

Then they became insistent. "But he is causing riots by his teaching wherever he goes--all over Judea, from Galilee to Jerusalem!" "Oh, is he a Galilean?" Pilate asked. When they said that he was, Pilate sent him to Herod Antipas, because Galilee was under Herod's jurisdiction, and Herod happened to be in Jerusalem at the time.

Then they became insistent. "But he is causing riots by his teaching wherever he goes--all over Judea, from Galilee to Jerusalem!"

Mark 1:14 Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God's Good News. (see verses 1-15, also Matthew 4, Luke 4:1-13)

Luke 4:14-15 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit's power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.

John 1:43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come, follow me." (see verses 35-51)

John 2:1-2 The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. (see verses 1-12)

"Oh, is he a Galilean?" Pilate asked. When they said that he was, Pilate sent him to Herod Antipas, because Galilee was under Herod's jurisdiction, and Herod happened to be in Jerusalem at the time.

Matthew 14:1-2 When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about Jesus, he said to his advisers, "This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles." (see Luke 9:7-9)

Mark 8:15 As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, "Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod." (see verses 11-21)

Luke 3:1 It was now the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, the Roman emperor. Pontius Pilate was governor over Judea; Herod Antipas was ruler over Galilee; his brother Philip was ruler over Iturea and Traconitis; Lysanias was ruler over Abilene.

Luke 13:31 At that time some Pharisees said to him, "Get away from here if you want to live! Herod Antipas wants to kill you!" (see verses 31-35)

Acts 4:27 "In fact, this has happened here in this very city! (see Psalm 2:1-2) For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed." (see verses 23-31)

Luke 23:1-4 Part 2 of 2

Then the entire council took Jesus to Pilate, the Roman governor. They began to state their case: "This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king." So Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus replied, "You have said it." Pilate turned to the leading priests and to the crowd and said, "I find nothing wrong with this man!"

Luke 23:1-4 Part 1 of 2

Then the entire council took Jesus to Pilate, the Roman governor.

Mark 15:1 Very early in the morning the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law--the entire high council--met to discuss their next step. They bound Jesus, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor. (see also Matthew 27:2)

John 18:28 Jesus' trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn't go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Passover.

Acts 3:13 "For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob--the God of all our ancestors--who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. (see verses 1-11) This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate's decision to release him."

John 19:12 Then Pilate tried to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, "If you release this man, you are no 'friend of Caesar.' Anyone who declares himself a king is a rebel against Caesar."

Acts 17:7 "And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another king, named Jesus." (see verses 1-15)

So Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" Jesus replied, "You have said it."

Matthew 27:11-14 Now Jesus was standing before Pilate, the Roman governor. "Are you the king of the Jews?" the governor asked him. Jesus replied, "You have said it." But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. "Don't you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?" Pilate demanded. but Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor's surprise. (see also Mark 15:2-5, John 18:33-38)

Luke 22:66-71 Part 2 of 2

At daybreak all the elders of the people assembled, including the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. Jesus was led before this high council, and they said, "Tell us, are you the Messiah?" But he replied, "If I tell you, you won't believe me. And if I ask you a question, you won't answer. But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God's right hand." They all shouted, "So, you are claiming to be the Son of God?" And he replied, "You say that I am." "Why do we need other witnesses?" they said. "We ourselves heard him say it."

"But from now on the Son of Man will be seated in the place of power at God's right hand."

Psalm 110:1 The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet."

Mark 14:62 Jesus said, "I AM. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God's right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven." (see also Matthew 26:64)

They all shouted,"So, you are claiming to be the Son of God?"

Matthew 3:17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy." (see verses 13-17, also Mark 1:9-11)

Matthew 14:33 Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed. (see verses 22-34)

Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." (see verses 13-20)

Luke 1:35 The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God." (see verses 26-38)

John 1:49 Then Nathanael exclaimed, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God--the King of Israel!" (see verses 45-50)

John 11:27 "Yes, Lord," she told him. "I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God." (see verses 1-44)

"Why do we need other witnesses?" they said. "We ourselves heard him say it."

Matthew 26:65 Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, "Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy." (see verses 57-66, also Mark 14:63)

Luke 22:66-71 Part 1 of 2

Matthew 26:83 But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, "I demand in the name of the living God--tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God." (see verses 59-62, also Mark 14:55-61)

John 10:24-25 The people surrounded him and asked, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." Jesus replied, "I have already told you, and you don't believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father's name." (see verses 22-42)

But he replied, "If I tell you, you won't believe me. And if I ask you a question, you won't answer."

Luke 20:3-8 "Let me ask you a question first," he replied. "Did John's authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human?" They talked it over among themselves. "If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn't believe John. But if we say it was merely human, the people will stone us because they are convinced John was a prophet." So they finally replied that they didn't know. And Jesus responded, "Then I won't tell you by what authority I do these things." (see verses 1-19)
