Luke 2:1-2 Part 1 of 2

At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire.

[The Roman Empire was considered to be the whole, known world, subject to the governing power of Rome. The purpose of the census was for taxation and military service, though Jews were exempt from military service.]

Colossians 1:6  This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God's wonderful grace.
