Luke 9:21-22 Part 1 of 2

Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone who he was. "The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things," he said. "He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead."

Jesus warned his disciples not to tell anyone who he was.
Matthew 8:4  Then Jesus said to him, "Don't tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed."
Matthew 12:15c-16  He healed all the sick among them, but he warned them not to reveal who he was.

"The Son of Man"
Luke 18:31  Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, "Listen, we're going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true."

"must suffer many terrible things," he said.
Isaiah 53:3  He was despised and rejected--a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.
Isaiah 53:5  But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
Mark 8:31a  Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law.
Luke 18:32  "He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully and spit upon."
John 19:1-3  Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him. "Hail! King of the Jews!" they mocked, as they slapped him across the face.

Luke 9:18-20 Part 1 of 2

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"  "Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead." Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Messiah sent from God!"

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone.
Matthew 14:23  After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
Mark 1:35  Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Luke 9:28  About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.
Luke 11:1  Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
Matthew 16:13  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

Luke 9:12-17 Part 4 of 4

Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said, "Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this remote place." But Jesus said, "You feed them."  "But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered. "Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?" For there were about 5,000 men there. Jesus replied, "Tell them to sit down in groups of about fifty each. So the people all sat down. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers!

They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers!
Matthew 14:20-21  They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers. About 5,000 men were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children!

John 6:11c-13  And they all ate as much as they wanted. After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, "Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted." So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.

Mark 6:37b-38  "With what?" they asked. "We'd have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!"  "How much bread do you have?" he asked. "Go and find out." They came back and reported, "We have five loaves of bread and two fish."
John 6:7-9  Philip replied, "Even if we worked for months, we wouldn't have enough money to feed them!" Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. "There's a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?"
2 Kings 4:42-43  One day a man from Baal-shalishah brought the man of God a sack of fresh grain and twenty loaves of barley bread made from the first grain of his harvest. But Elisha repeated, "Give it to the people so they can eat, for this is what the LORD says: Everyone will eat, and there will even be some left over!"

Luke 9:10-11 Part 3 of 3

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.

He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God,
Luke 11:20  "But if I am casting out demons by the power of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you."
Luke 17:20-21  One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the Kingdom of God come?" Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God can't be detected by visible signs. You won't be able to say, 'Here it is!' or 'It's over there!" For the Kingdom of God is already among you."
Luke 19:11  The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away. (see verses 12-27)
Luke 21:31  "In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near." (see verses 7-36)
John 3:3-6  Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God."  "What do you mean?" exclaimed Nicodemus. "How can an old man go back into his mother's womb and be born again?" Jesus replied, "I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life."
Acts 1:3  During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

and he healed those who were sick.
Matthew 4:24  News about him spread as far as Syria, and people soon began bringing him all who were sick. And whatever their sickness or disease, or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed--he healed them all.
Matthew 14:14  Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 15:30  A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn't speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all.

Luke 9:10-11 Part 2 of 3

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.

But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him.
Matthew 4:25  Large crowds followed him wherever he went--people from Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, from all over Judea, and from east of the Jordan River.
Matthew 14:13  As soon as Jesus heard the news, (see verses 3-12) he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns.
Mark 6:33-34  But many people recognized them and saw them leaving, and people from many towns ran ahead along the shore and got there ahead of them. Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
John 6:2  A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick.

He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God,
Daniel 7:13-14  As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal--it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.
Matthew 4:17  From then on Jesus began to preach, "Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near."
Matthew 6:10  "May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Matthew 7:21  "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter."
Matthew 25:34  "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world."

But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done.
Mark 6:30  The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught.

Then he slipped quietly away with them
Mark 6:31-32  Then Jesus said, "Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile." He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat. So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.

toward the town of Bethsaida.
Matthew 11:20-21  Then Jesus began to denounce the towns where he had done so many of his miracles, because they hadn't repented of their sins and turned to God. "What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented of their sins long ago, clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse." (see also Luke 10:13)
Mark 6:45  Immediately after this (see verses 35-44) Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home.
Mark 8:22-26  When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and they begged him to touch the man and heal him. Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man's eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, "Can you see anything now?" The man looked around. "Yes," he said, "I see people, but I can't see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around." Then Jesus placed his hands on the man's eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly. Jesus sent him away, saying, "Don't go back into the village on your way home."
John 1:43-44  The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Come, follow me." Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter's hometown.

Luke 9:7-9 Part 2 of 2

When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about everything Jesus was doing he was puzzled. Some were saying that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead. Others thought Jesus was Elijah or one of the other prophets risen from the dead. "I beheaded John," Herod said, "so who is this man about whom I hear such stories?" And he kept trying to see him.

"I beheaded John," Herod said,
Matthew 14:10-11  So John was beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. (see verses 3-12)
Mark 6:26-27  Then the king deeply regretted what he had said; but because of the vows he had made in front of his guests, he couldn't refuse her. So he immediately sent an executioner to the prison to cut off John's head and bring it to him. The soldier beheaded John in the prison, brought his head on a tray, and gave it to the girl, who took it to her mother. (see verses 17-29)
Mark 6:16  When Herod heard about Jesus, he said, "John, the man I beheaded, has come back from the dead."

"so who is this man about whom I hear such stories?" And he kept trying to see him.
Luke 23:18  Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle.

Luke 9:7-9 Part 1 of 2

When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about everything Jesus was doing he was puzzled. Some were saying that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead. Others thought Jesus was Elijah or one of the other prophets risen from the dead. "I beheaded John," Herod said, "so who is this man about whom I hear such stories?" And he kept trying to see him.

When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about everything Jesus was doing he was puzzled.
Luke 3:1  It was now the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, the Roman emperor. Pontius Pilate was governor over Judea; Herod Antipas was ruler over Galilee; his brother Philip was ruler over Iturea and Traconitis; Lysanias was ruler over Abilene.
Luke 23:6-7  "Oh, is he a Galilean?" Pilate asked. When they said that he was, Pilate sent him to Herod Antipas, because Galilee was under Herod's jurisdiction, and Herod happened to be in Jerusalem at that time.

Some were saying that John the Baptist had been raised from the dead.
Matthew 14:1-2  When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about Jesus, he said to his advisers, "This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles."
Mark 6:14  Herod Antipas, the king, soon heard about Jesus, because everyone was talking about him. Some were saying, "This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead. That is why he can do such miracles."

Others thought Jesus was Elijah or one of the other prophets risen from the dead.
Malachi 4:5  "Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the LORD arrives."
Mark 6:15  Others said, "He's the prophet Elijah." Still others said, "He's a prophet like the other great prophets of the past."
Luke 9:18-20  One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do people say that I am?"  "Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead." Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Messiah sent from God!"

Luke 9:3-6 Part 3 of 3

"Take nothing for your journey," he instructed them. "Don't take a walking stick, a traveler's bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes. Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town. And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate." So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.

"And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate."
Nehemiah 5:13   I shook out the folds of my robe and said, "If you fail to keep your promise, may God shake you like this from your homes and from your property!" The whole assembly responded, "Amen," and they praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
Acts 13:50-51  Then the Jews stirred up the influential religious women and the leaders of the city, (Antioch) and they incited a mob against Paul and Barnabas and ran them out of town. So they shook the dust from their feet as a sign of rejection and went to the town of Iconium.
Acts 18:4-6  Each Sabbath found Paul at the synagogue (in Corinth) trying to convince the Jews and Greeks alike. And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. But when they opposed and insulted him, Paul shook the dust from his clothes and said, "Your blood is upon your own heads--I am innocent. From now on I will go preach to the Gentiles."

So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.
Matthew 11:1  When Jesus had finished giving these instructions to his twelve disciples, he went out to teach and preach in towns throughout the region.

Luke 9:3-6 Part 2 of 3

"Take nothing for your journey," he instructed them. "Don't take a walking stick, a traveler's bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes. Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town. And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate." So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick.

"Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town."
Luke 10:5-9  "Whenever you enter someone's home, first say, 'May God's peace be on this house.' If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you. Don't move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay. If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. Heal the sick, and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God is near you now.' "

"And if a town refuses to welcome you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate."
Matthew 10:14-15  "If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day."
Mark 6:11  "But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate."
Luke 10:10-12  "But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, 'We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this--the Kingdom of God is near!' I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day."

"Take nothing for your journey," he instructed them. "Don't take a walking stick, a traveler's bag, food, money or even a change of clothes."
Matthew 10:9-10  "Don't take any money in your money belts--no gold, silver, or even copper coins. Don't carry a traveler's bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed."
Mark 6:8-9  He told them to take nothing for their journey except a walking stick--no food, no traveler's bag, no money. He allowed them to wear sandals but not to take a change of clothes.
Luke 10:4  "Don't take any money with you, nor a traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don't stop to greet anyone on the road."
Luke 22:35  Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler's bag, or an extra pair of sandals, did you need anything?"  "No," they replied.

"Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town."
Matthew 10:11-13  "Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town. When you enter the home give it your blessing. If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing."
Mark 6:10  "Wherever you go," he said, "stay in the same house until you leave town."

Luke 9:1-2 Part 3 of 3

One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
Luke 9:59-60  He said to another person, "Come follow me." The man agreed, but he said, "Lord, first let me return home and bury my father." But Jesus told him, "Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God."
Luke 10:1, 9  The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit. ... "Heal the sick, and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God is near you now.' "
Luke 11:20  "But if I am casting out demons by the power of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you."
Luke 17:20-21  One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, "When will the kingdom of God come?" Jesus replied, "The Kingdom of God can't be detected by visible signs. You won't be able to say, 'Here it is!' or 'It's over there!' For the Kingdom of God is already among you."
Acts 1:3  During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21  When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 5:10  "God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs."

Matthew 7:21  "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter."
Matthew 10:5-8  Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions: "Don't go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, but only to the people of Israel--God's lost sheep. Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!"
Matthew 19:14  But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."
Matthew 25:34  "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world."
Luke 4:43  But he replied, "I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns, too, because that is why I was sent."
Luke 9:11  But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. He welcomed them and taught them about the Kingdom of God, and he healed those who were sick.

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately the bleeding stopped. "Who touched me?" Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you." But Jesus said, "Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me." When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. "Daughter," he said to her, "your faith has made you well. Go in peace."
