In
the third year of the reign of King Cyrus of Persia, Daniel (also known
as Belteshazzar) had another vision. He understood that the vision
concerned events certain to happen in the future--times of war and great
hardship. When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning
for three whole weeks. All that time I had eaten no rich food. No meat
or wine crossed my lips, and I used no fragrant lotions until those
three weeks had passed.
When this vision came to me, I, Daniel, had been in mourning for three whole weeks.
Ezra 9:3-5 When I heard this (see verses 1-2), I tore my cloak and my shirt, pulled hair from my head and beard, and sat down utterly shocked. Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel came and sat with me because of this outrage committed by the returned exiles. And I sat there utterly appalled until the time of the evening sacrifice. At the time of the sacrifice, I stood up from where I had sat in mourning with my clothes torn. I fell to my knees and lifted my hands to the LORD my God. (see all chapter 9)
Nehemiah 1:4 When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted and prayed to the God of heaven. (see all chapter 1)
Psalm 119:136 Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions. (see verses 129-136)
Amos 9:5 The Lord, the LORD of Heaven's Armies, touches the land and it melts, and all its people mourn. The ground rises like the Nile River at floodtime, and then it sinks again. (see all chapter 9)
All that time I had eaten no rich food. No meat or wine crossed my lips, and I used no fragrant lotions until those three weeks had passed.
Daniel 6:18 Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn't sleep at all that night. (see all chapter 6)
2 Samuel 3:34-35
"Your hands were not bound;
your feet were not chained.
No, you were murdered--
the victim of a wicked plot."
All the people wept again for Abner. David had refused to eat anything on the day of the funeral, and now everyone begged him to eat. But David had made a vow, saying, "May God strike me and even kill me if I eat anything before sundown." (see all chapter 3)
2 Samuel 12:15-17 After Nathan returned to his home, the LORD sent a deadly illness to the child of David and Uriah's wife. David begged God to spare the child. He went without food and lay all night on the bare ground. The elders of his household pleaded with him to get up and eat with them, but he refused. (see verses 1-25)
