Jesus
replied with this story: "A man prepared a great feast and sent out
many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to
tell the guests, 'Come, the banquet is ready.' But they all began making
excuses. One said, 'I have just bought a field and must inspect it.
Please excuse me.' Another said, 'I have just bought five pairs of oxen,
and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.' Another said, 'I now
have a wife, so I can't come!' "
"Another said, 'I now have a wife, so I can't come!' "
Deuteronomy 24:5 "A newly married man must not be drafted into the army or be given any other official responsibilities. He must be free to spend one year at home, bringing happiness to the wife he has married."
Deuteronomy 20:7 " 'Has anyone here just become engaged to a woman but not yet married her? Well, you may go home and get married! You might die in the battle, and someone else would marry her.' "
Proverbs 5:18 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil.
Luke 9:57-62 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, "I will follow you wherever you go." but Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head." He said to another person, "Come, follow me." The man agreed, but he said, "Lord, first let me return home and bury my father." But Jesus told him, "Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God." another said, "Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family." But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God."
