A
large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, "If
you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by
comparison--your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and
sisters--yes, even your own life. Otherwise you cannot be my disciple.
And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my
disciple."
"And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple."
Matthew 10:38 "If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine."
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me."
Mark 8:34 Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross and follow me."
Luke 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me."
John 19:17-20 Carrying the cross by himself, he went to the place called Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they nailed him to the cross. Two others were crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them. And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it.
