Luke 14:25-27 Part 1 of 2

A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, "If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison--your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, even your own life. Otherwise you cannot be my disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple."

Deuteronomy 33:9  "The Levites obeyed your (the LORD's) word and guarded your covenant. They were more loyal to you than to their own parents. They ignored their relatives and did not acknowledge their own children." (see verses 8-11)

Malachi 2:5-6  "The purpose of my (the LORD of Heaven's Armies') covenant with the Levites was to bring life and peace, and that is what I gave them. Matthew 10:37  "If you love your father or mother more than you love me (Jesus), you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine."

Luke 17:32-33  "Remember what happened to Lot's wife! If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it."

Acts 20:24  "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus--the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."   

Revelation 12:11  "And they (our brothers and sisters) have defeated him (the accuser/Satan) by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die." (see verses 1-12)
