Daniel 8:13-14

Then I heard two holy ones talking to each other. One of them asked, "How long will the events of this vision last? How long will the rebellion that causes desecration stop the daily sacrifices? How long will the Temple and heaven's army be trampled on?" The other replied, "It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the Temple will be made right again."

Then I heard two holy ones talking to each other.
Daniel  4:13  " 'Then as I (Nebuchadnezzar) lay there dreaming, I saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.' " (see verses 1-18)
Daniel 4:23  " 'Then you saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, "Cut down the tree and destroy it. But leave the stump and the roots in the ground, bound with a band of iron and bronze and surrounded by tender grass. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven. Let him live with the animals of the field for seven periods of time." ' " (see verses 19-37)

One of them asked, "How long will the events of this vision last? How long will the rebellion that causes desecration stop the daily sacrifices? How long will the Temple and heaven's army be trampled on?"
Daniel 12:6  One of them asked the man dressed in linen, who was now standing above the river, "How long will it be until these shocking events are over?" (see verses 1-4, 11:36-45)
Luke 21:24  "They will be killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the period of the Gentiles comes to an end." (see verses 20-36)
Isaiah 5:5  Now let me tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will tear down its hedges and let be destroyed. I will break down its walls and let the animals trample it. (see verses 1-7)
Isaiah 63:18  How briefly your holy people possessed your holy place, and now our enemies have destroyed it. (see verses 15-19)
Hebrews 10:29-31  Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us. For we know the one who said,
    "I will take revenge.
I will pay them back." (Deuteronomy 32:35)
He also said,
"The LORD will judge his own people." (Deuteronomy 32:36)
It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Revelation 11:2  "But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months." (see verses 1-14)

The other replied, "It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the Temple will be made right again."
Daniel 12:7  The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, "It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. When the shattering of the holy people has finally come to an end, all these things will have happened." (see verses 1-10)
Daniel 12:11-12  "From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days. And blessed are those who wait and remain until the end of the 1,335 days!"

Daniel 8:11-12

It even challenged the Commander of heaven's army by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to him and by destroying his Temple. The army of heaven was restrained from responding to this rebellion. So the daily sacrifice was halted, and truth was overthrown. The horn succeeded in everything it did.

It even challenged the Commander
Daniel  8:25  "He will be a master of deception and will become arrogant; he will destroy many without warning. He will even take on the Prince of princes in battle, but he will be broken, though not by human power." [see verses 23-25]

of heaven's army
Daniel 11:36-37  "The king will do as he pleases, exalting himself and claiming to be greater than every god, even blaspheming the God of gods. He will succeed, but only until the time of wrath is completed. For what has been determined will surely take place. He will have no respect for the gods of his ancestors, or for the god loved by women, or for any other god, for he will boast that he is greater than them all." [see verses 36-39]

by cancelling the daily sacrifices offered to him
Ezekiel 46:13-15  "Each morning you must sacrifice a one-year-old lamb with no defects as a burnt offering to the LORD. With the lamb, a grain offering must also be given to the LORD--about three quarts of flour with a third of a gallon of olive oil to moisten the choice flour. This will be a permanent law for you. The lamb, the grain offering, and the olive oil must be given as a daily sacrifice every morning without fail." [see verses 1-18]

and by destroying his Temple.
Daniel 11:31  "His army will take over the Temple fortress, pollute the sanctuary, put a stop to the daily sacrifices, and set up the sacrilegious object that causes desecration."
Daniel 12:11  "From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days." [see Daniel 9:27]
Matthew 24:15  "The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about--the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place." (Reader, pay attention!) [see verses 15-22, also Mark 13:14-20]

The army of heaven was restrained from responding to this rebellion. So the daily sacrifice was halted, and truth was overthrown. The horn succeeded in everything it did.
Isaiah 59:13-15  We know we have rebelled and have denied the LORD. We have turned our backs on our God. We know how unfair and oppressive we have been, carefully planning our deceitful lies. Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The LORD looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. [see all chapter 59]

Daniel 8:8-10 Part 2 of 2

The goat became very powerful. But at the height of his power, his large horn was broken off. In the large horn's place grew four prominent horns pointing in the four directions of the earth. Then from one of the prominent horns came a small horn whose power grew very great. It extended toward the south and the east and toward the glorious land of Israel. Its power reached to the heavens, where it attacked the heavenly army, throwing some of the heavenly beings and some of the stars to the ground and trampling them.

Ezekiel 28:2-3  "Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign LORD: In your great pride you claim, 'I am a god! I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.' But you are only a man and not a god, though you boast that you are a god. You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel and think no secret is hidden from you." (see verses 1-19)
Luke 10:18  "Yes," he told them, "I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!" (see verses 17-20)
Revelation 12:7-9  Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. This great dragon--the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world--was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

Revelation 8:10  Then the third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch. It fell on one-third of the rivers and on the springs of water. (see verses 10-11)
Revelation 12:3-4  Then I witnessed in heaven another significant event. I saw a large red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept away one-third of the stars in the sky, and he threw them to the earth. He stood in front of the woman as she was about to give birth, ready to devour her baby as soon as it was born. (see verses 1-6)
Daniel 7:7  Then in my vision that night, I saw a fourth beast--terrifying, dreadful, and very strong. It devoured and crushed its victims with huge iron teeth and trampled their remains beneath its feet. It was different from any of the other beasts, and it had ten horns. (see verses 1-8)

Revelation 7:1  Then I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so they did not blow on the earth or the sea, or even on any tree. (see verses 1-8)

Then from one of the prominent horns came a small horn whose power grew very great.
Daniel 7:8  As I was looking at the horns, suddenly another small horn appeared among them. Three of the first horns were torn out by the roots to make room for it. This little horn had eyes like human eyes and a mouth that boasted arrogantly. (see verses 7-12)
Daniel 7:20  I also asked about the ten horns on the fourth beast's head and the little horn that came up afterward and destroyed three of the other horns. This horn had seemed greater than the others, and it had human eyes and a mouth that was boasting arrogantly. (see verses 19-28)
Daniel 9:26-27  "After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him." (see verses 20-27)

Daniel 8:5-7

While I was watching, suddenly a male goat appeared from the west, crossing the land so swiftly that he didn't even touch the ground. This goat, which had one very large horn between its eyes, headed toward the two-horned ram that I had seen standing beside the river, rushing at him in a rage. The goat charged furiously at the ram and struck him, breaking off both horns. Now the ram was helpless, and the goat knocked him down and trampled him. No one could rescue the ram from the goat's power.

Daniel 8:3-4

As I looked up, I saw a ram with two long horns standing beside the river. One of the horns was longer than the other, even though it had grown later than the other one. The ram butted everything out of his way to the west, to the north, and to the south, and no one could stand against him or help his victims. He did as he pleased and became very great.

I will smash down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness--secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name. And why have I called you for this work? Why did I call you by name when you did not know me? It is for the sake of Jacob my servant, Israel my chosen one." (see verses 1-7)

Daniel 8:1-2

During the third year of King Belshazzar's reign, I, Daniel, saw another vision, following the one that had already appeared to me. In this vision I was at the fortress of Susa, in the province of Elam, standing beside the Ulai River.

During the third year of King Belshazzar's reign,
Daniel 7:1  Earlier, during the first year of King Belshazzar's reign in Babylon, Daniel had a dream and saw visions as he lay in his bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is what he saw. [see verses 1-14]

I, Daniel, saw another vision, following the one that had already appeared to me.
Daniel 1:17  God gave these four young men an unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom. And God gave Daniel the special ability to interpret the meanings of visions and dreams.

In this vision I was at the fortress of Susa, in the province of Elam, standing beside the Ulai River.

Jeremiah 25:15-17  This is what the LORD, the God of Israel said to me: "Take from my hand this cup filled to the brim with my anger, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it. When they drink from it, they will stagger, crazed by the warfare I will send against them." So I took the cup of anger from the LORD and made all the nations drink from it--every nation to which the LORD sent me.
Jeremiah 25:24-25  I gave it to the kings of Arabia, the kings of the nomadic tribes of the desert, and to the kings of Zimri, Elam, and Media. [see all chapter 25]

Daniel 7:26-28 Part 2 of 2

"But then the court will pass judgment, and all his power will be taken away and completely destroyed. Then the sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him." That was the end of the vision. I, Daniel, was terrified by my thoughts and my face was pale with fear, but I kept these things to myself.

Daniel 7:23-25

Then he said to me, "This fourth beast is the fourth world power that will rule the earth. It will be different from all the others. It will devour the whole world, trampling and crushing everything in its path. Its ten horns are ten kings who will rule the empire. Then another king will arise different from the other ten, who will subdue three of them. He will defy the Most High and oppress the holy people of the Most High. He will try to change their sacred festivals and laws, and they will be placed under his control for a time, times, and half a time."

Then he said to me, "This fourth beast is the fourth world power that will rule the earth. It will be different from all the others. It will devour the whole world, trampling and crushing everything in its path."

"Then another king will arise different from the other ten, who will subdue three of them. He will defy the Most High"
Isaiah 37:23  "Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!" (see verses 21-29, also 2 Kings 19:20-28)
Isaiah 5:19  They even mock God and say, "Hurry up and do something! We want to see what you can do. Let the Holy One of Israel carry out his plan, for we want to know what it is." (see verses 13-25)
Isaiah 45:11  This is what the LORD says--the Holy One of Israel and your creator: "Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? (see verses 9-13)

"and oppress the holy people of the Most High."
Revelation 16:5-6  And I heard the angel who had authority over all water saying, "You are just, O Holy One, who is and who always was, because you have sent these judgments. Since they shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, you have given them blood to drink. It is their just reward." (see verses 3-7)

"He will try to change their sacred festivals and laws, and they will be placed under his control for a time, times, and half a time."
Daniel 12:7  The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, "It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. Daniel 7:19-22 Part 2 of 2

Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, the one so different from the others and so terrifying. It had devoured and crushed its victims with iron teeth and bronze claws, trampling their remains beneath its feet. I also asked about the ten horns on the fourth beast's head and the little horn that came up afterward and destroyed three of the other horns. This horn had seemed greater than the others, and it had human eyes and a mouth that was boasting arrogantly. As I watched this horn was waging war against God's holy people and was defeating them, until the Ancient One--the Most High--came and judged in favor of his holy people. Then the time arrived for the holy people to take over the kingdom.

until the Ancient One--the Most High--came and judged in favor of his holy people. Then the time arrived for the holy people to take over the kingdom.
Daniel 7:13-14  As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal--it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed. (see verses 1-14)
Mark 8:34-38  Then calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
1 Corinthians 6:2-3  Don't you realize that someday we believers will judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can't you decide even these little things among yourselves? Don't you realize that we will judge angels? So you should surely be able to resolve ordinary disputes in this life. (see verses 1-8)

Revelation 17:12-14  "The ten horns of the beast are ten kings who have not yet risen to power. They will be appointed to their kingdoms for one brief moment to reign with the beast. They will all agree to give him their power and authority. Together they will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them because he is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. Esther 3:8-9  Then Haman approached King Xerxes and said, "There is a certain race of people scattered through all the provinces of your empire who keep themselves separate from everyone else. Their laws are different from those of any other people, and they refuse to obey the laws of the king. So it is not in the king's interest to let them live." (see all chapter 3)
Daniel 11:36-37  "The king will do as he pleases, exalting himself and claiming to be greater than every god, even blaspheming the God of gods. He will succeed, but only until the time of wrath is completed. For what has been determined will surely take place. He will have no respect for the gods of his ancestors, or for the god loved by women, or for any other god, for he will boast that he is greater than them all." (see verses 28-45)

Daniel 7:15-18 Part 3 of 3

I, Daniel, was troubled by all I had seen, and my visions terrified me. So I approached one of those standing beside the throne and asked him what it all meant. He explained it to me like this: "These four huge beasts represent four kingdoms that will arise from the earth. But in the end, the holy people of the Most High will be given the kingdom, and they will rule forever and ever."

"will be given the kingdom, and they will rule forever and ever."
Isaiah 60:12-14  "For the nations that refuse to serve you will be destroyed. The glory of Lebanon will be yours--the forests of cypress, fir, and pine--to beautify my sanctuary. They will call you the City of the LORD, and Zion of the Holy One of Israel."

To them I will give authority over
        all the nations.
They will rule the nations with an iron rod
and smash them like clay pots.
They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star!" (see verses 18-29)
Revelation 20:4  Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned for a thousand years. (see verses 1-6)

"These four huge beasts represent four kingdoms that will arise from the earth."
Daniel 2:38-40  "He has made you the ruler over all the inhabited world and has put even the wild animals and birds under your control. You are the head of gold. But after your kingdom comes to an end, another kingdom, inferior to yours, will rise to take your place. After that kingdom has fallen, yet a third kingdom, represented by bronze, will rise to rule the world. Following that kingdom there will be a fourth one, as strong as iron. That kingdom will smash and crush all previous empires, just as iron smashes and crushes everything it strikes." (see verses 24-45)
Daniel 7:2-3  In my vision that night, I, Daniel, saw a great storm churning the surface of a great sea, with strong winds blowing from every direction. Then four huge beasts came up out of the water, each different from the others. (see verses 1-8)

Daniel 7:15-18 Part 1 of 3

I, Daniel, was troubled by all I had seen, and my visions terrified me. So I approached one of those standing beside the throne and asked him what it all meant. He explained it to me like this: "These four huge beasts represent four kingdoms that will arise from the earth. But in the end, the holy people of the Most High will be given the kingdom, and they will rule forever and ever."

I, Daniel, was troubled by all I had seen, and my visions terrified me.
Daniel 4:19  "Upon hearing this, Daniel (also known as Belteshazzar) was overcome for a time, frightened by the meaning of the dream. Then the king said to him, 'Belteshazzar, don't be alarmed by the dream and what it means.' Belteshazzar replied, 'I wish the events foreshadowed in this dream would happen to your enemies, my lord, and not to you!' " [see all chapter 4]
Daniel 7:28  That was the end of the vision. I, Daniel, was terrified by my thoughts and my face was pale with fear, but I kept these things to myself. [see all chapter 7]
Daniel 10:7-8  Only I, Daniel, saw this vision. The men with me saw nothing, but they were suddenly terrified and ran away to hide. So I was left there all alone to see this amazing vision. My strength left me, my face grew deathly pale, and I felt very weak. [see verses 1-11]
Job 7:13-14  "I think 'My bed will comfort me, and sleep will ease my misery,' but then you shatter me with dreams and terrify me with visions." [see verses 11-16]
Matthew 14:25-26  About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, "It's a ghost!" [see verses 22-34]

So I approached one of those standing beside the throne and asked him what it all meant. He explained it to me like this:
Daniel 8:16  And I heard a human voice calling out from the Ulai River, "Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of his vision." [see verses 1-14]
Daniel 9:21-22  As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice. He explained to me, "Daniel, I have come here to give insight and understanding." [see verses 4-23]

His rule is eternal--it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.

Daniel 4:34  "After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal." (see verses 28-37)
Daniel 6:26  "I declare that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and he will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his rule will never end." (see verses 14-28)

He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world,

John 17:2  "For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him." (see all chapter 17)
Ephesians 1:19-22  I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe in him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else--not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. (see verses 15-23)
Philippians 2:9-11  Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Daniel 7:11-12

I continued to watch because I could hear the little horn's boastful speech. I kept watching until the fourth beast was killed and its body was destroyed by fire. The other three beasts had their authority taken from them, but they were allowed to live a while longer.

I continued to watch because I could hear the little horn's boastful speech.
Daniel 7:8  As I was looking at the horns, suddenly another small horn appeared among them. Three of the first horns were torn out by the roots to make room for it. This little horn had eyes like human eyes and a mouth that boasted arrogantly.
Daniel 7:20  I also asked about the ten horns on the fourth beast's head and the little horn that came up afterward and destroyed three of the other horns. This horn had seemed greater than the others, and it had human eyes and a mouth that boasted arrogantly. (see verses 19-23)
Daniel 7:24-25  "It's ten horns are ten kings who will rule that empire. Then another king will arise, different from the other ten, who will subdue three of them. He will defy the Most High and oppress the holy people of the Most High. He will try to change their sacred festivals and laws, and they will be placed under his control for a time, times, and half a time."
Daniel 11:36  "The king will do as he pleases, exalting himself and claiming to be greater than every god, even blaspheming the God of gods. He will succeed, but only until the time of wrath is completed. For what has been determined will surely take place." (see verses 36-39)
2 Thessalonians 2:4  He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. (see verses 1-12)
Revelation 13:5-6  Then the beast was allowed to speak great blasphemies against God. And he was given authority to do whatever he wanted for forty-two months. And he spoke terrible words of blasphemy against God, slandering his name and dwelling--that is, those who dwell in heaven. (see verses 1-10)

I kept watching until the fourth beast was killed and its body was destroyed by fire. The other three beasts had their authority taken from them, but they were allowed to live a while longer.
Revelation 19:20  And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast--miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. (see verses 17-21)
Revelation 12:10-12  Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, "It has come at last--salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth--the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Therefore, rejoice O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! but terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time." (see all chapter 12)

Daniel 7:9-10 Part 3 of 3

I watched as thrones were put in place
and the Ancient One sat down to judge.
His clothing was as white as snow,
    his hair like purest wool.
He sat on a fiery throne
    with wheels of blazing fire,
and a river of fire was pouring out,
    flowing from his presence.
Millions of angels ministered to him;
many millions stood to attend him.
Then the court began its session,
    and the books were opened.

Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him.
2 Chronicles 18:18  Then Micaiah continued, "Listen to what the LORD says! I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the armies of heaven around him, on his right and on his left." (see verses 9-34, also 1 Kings 22)
Revelation 5:11-12  Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered--to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing." (see all chapter 5)

Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.
Exodus 32:32-33  "But now, if you will only forgive their sin--but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!" But the LORD replied to Moses, "No, I will erase the name of everyone who has sinned against me." (see all chapter 32)
Psalm 69:28  Erase their names from the Book of Life; don't let them be counted among the righteous. (see verses 19-29)
Ezekiel 13:9  "I will raise my fist against all the prophets who see false visions and make lying predictions, and they will be banished from the community of Israel. I will blot their names from Israel's record books, and they will never again set foot in their own land. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD." (see all chapter 13)
