Now rescue your beloved people.
Answer and save us by your power.
God has promised this by his holiness:
"I will divide up Shechem with joy.
I will measure out the valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine,
and Manasseh, too.
Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors,
and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings.
But Moab, my wash basin, will become my servant,
and I will wipe my feet on Edom
and shout in triumph over Philistia."
"I will measure out the valley of Succoth."
Genesis 33:17 Jacob, on the other hand, traveled on to Succoth. There he built himself a house and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place was named Succoth (which means "shelters"). [see verses 1-17]
Judges 8:5 When they reached Succoth, Gideon asked the leaders of the town, "Please give my warriors some food. They are very tired. I am chasing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian." [see all chapter 8]
"Gilead is mine, and Manasseh, too."
Numbers 32:1-2 The tribes of Reuben and Gad owned vast numbers of livestock. So when they saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were ideally suited for their flocks and herds, they came to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the other leaders of the community.
Numbers 32:33 So Moses assigned land to the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph. He gave them the territory of King Sihon of the Amorites and the land of King Og of Bashan--the whole land with its cities and surrounding lands. [see all chapter 32]
"Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors, and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings."
Deuteronomy 33:17
"Joseph has the majesty of a young bull;
he has the horns of a wild ox.
He will gore distant nations,
even to the ends of the earth.
This is my blessing for the multitudes of Ephraim
and the thousands of Manasseh." [see verses 12-17]
Genesis 49:10
"The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff from his descendants,
until the coming of the one to whom it belongs,
the one whom all nations will honor." [see verses 8-12]
"But Moab, my wash basin, will become my servant, and I will wipe my feet on Edom and shout in triumph over Philistia."
Jeremiah 48:46
"What sorrow awaits you, O people of Moab!
The people of the god Chemosh are destroyed!
Your sons and daughters
have been taken away as captives." [see all chapter 48]
Jeremiah 49:17-18
"Edom will be an object of horror.
All who pass by will be appalled
and will gasp at the destruction they see there.
It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
and their neighboring towns," says the LORD.
"No one will live there;
no one will inhabit it." [see verses 7-22]
Jeremiah 47:4
"The time has come for the Philistines to be destroyed,
along with their allies from Tyre and Sidon.
Yes, the LORD is destroying the remnant of the Philistines,
those colonists from the land of Crete." [see all chapter 47]
