The importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4 On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. [see all acts 2]
Acts 4:8-9 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them "Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we've done a good deed for a crippled man?" Do you want to know how he was healed?" [see Acts 4:1-22]
Acts 7:55-56 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God's right hand. And he told them, "Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God's right hand!"
[see all Acts 7]
Acts 13:9-10 Saul, also known as Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he looked the sorcerer in the eye. Then he said, "You son of the devil, full of every sort of deceit and fraud, and enemy of all that is good! Will you never stop perverting the true ways of the LORD?" [see Acts 13:4-12]
The Holy Spirit affirms believers' salvation.
1 Corinthians 6:11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of God. [see all 1 Corinthians 6]
2 Thessalonians 2:13 As for us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation--a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. [see all 2 Thessalonians 2]
The Holy Spirit affirms believers identity as children of God.
Romans 8:9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) [see Romans 8:1-13]
Romans 8:14-15 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father." [see Romans 8:14-30]
