Luke 1:34-35 Part 1 of 2

Mary asked the angel, "But how can this happen? I am a virgin." The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God."

"The Holy Spirit will come upon you,"

Matthew 1:18-20  This is how the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," the angel said, "do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit."

 

"and the power of the Most High will overshadow you" 

Psalm 62:11-12a  God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; (1 Chronicles 29:11, Revelation 19:1) unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. (Psalm 86:5; 103:8; 130:7) 

Psalm 147:5  How great is our Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!" 

 

"So the baby to be born will be holy" 

Mark 1:23-24  Suddenly a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit began shouting, "Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!" 

John 6:68-69  Simon Peter replied, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God." 

Acts 3:14  "You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer."
