James 1:9-11 Part 2 of 2

Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all their achievements.

 

And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field.

Job 14:1-2  "How frail is humanity! How short is life, how full of trouble! We blossom like a flower then wither. Like a passing shadow, we quickly disappear." (see all chapter 14)

Psalm 103:15-16  Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows and we are gone--as though we had never been here. (see all Psalm 103)

1 Peter 1:24-25  As the Scriptures say, "People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever." And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. (see verses 13-25)

 

The hot sun rises 

Matthew 20:12  " 'Those people worked only one hour, and yet you've paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.' " (see verses 1-16)

 

and the grass withers; 

Psalm 102:4  My heart is sick, withered like grass, and I have lost my appetite.

Psalm 102:11  My life passes as swiftly as the evening shadows. I am withering away like grass. (see all Psalm 102)

 

the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all their achievements. 

Isaiah 40:6-8  A voice said, "Shout!" I asked, "What should I shout?"  "Shout that people are like grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the LORD. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever."
