Psalm 103:8-10 Part 1 of 2

The LORD is compassionate and merciful,

    slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

He will not constantly accuse us,

    nor remain angry forever.

He does not punish us for all our sins;

    he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

 

The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

Numbers 14:18-19  " 'The LORD is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But he does not excuse the guilty. He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected--even children in the third and fourth generations.' In keeping with your magnificent, unfailing love, please pardon the sins of this people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt."  (see all chapter 14)

2 Chronicles 30:9  "For if you return to the LORD, your relatives and your children will be treated mercifully by their captors, and they will be able to return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you."

Psalm 99:8  

O LORD our God, you answered them.

    You were a forgiving God to them,

    but you punished them when they went wrong.  (see all Psalm 99)

Joel 2:13  

"Don't tear your clothing in your grief,

    but tear your hearts instead,"

Return to the LORD your God,

    for he is merciful and compassionate,

slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

    He is eager to relent and not to punish.  (see all chapter 2)

Jonah 3:10-4:2  When God saw what they (the Ninevites) had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.

    This change of plans greatly upset Jonah and he became very angry. So he complained to the LORD about it: "Didn't I say before I left home that you would do this, LORD? That's why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. Just kill me now, LORD! I'd rather be dead than alive if what I predicted (see verse 3:3) will not happen." 

    The LORD replied, "Is it right for you to be angry about this?"
