Luke 8:11-15 Part 3 of 5

"This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God's word. The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved. The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don't have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation. The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow to maturity. And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God's word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.

"But since they don't have deep roots, they believe for a while,"
Matthew 13:21a  "But since they don't have deep roots, they don't last long." (also Mark 4:17a)
Galatians 1:6-7  I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ.
Galatians 5:7-8  You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? It certainly isn't God, for he is the one who called you to freedom.

"then they fall away when they face temptation."
Matthew 13:21b  "They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God's word." (also Mark 4:17b)
Matthew 11:6  "And tell him (John the Baptist), 'God blesses those who do not turn away because of me (Jesus).' "
1 Timothy 4:1-2  Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.
Hebrews 3:12-13  Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.
