The
crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because he was
nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that
the Kingdom of God would begin right away. He said, "A nobleman was
called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return.
Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among
them ten pounds of silver, saying, 'Invest this for me while I'm gone.'
But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We
do not want him to be our king.' "
"But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We do not want him to be our king.' "
Matthew 26:1-5 When Jesus had finished saying all these things (Matthew 25:31-46), he said to his disciples, "As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified." At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest, plotting how to capture Jesus secretly and kill him. "But not during the Passover celebration," they agreed, "or the people may riot."
Mark 14:10-11 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted when they heard why he had come, and they promised to give him money. So he began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus. (see also Luke 22:1-6)
John 1:10-12 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 19:15 "Away with him," they yelled. "Away with him! Crucify him!" "What? Crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the leading priests shouted back. (see chapters 18 and 19)
