Luke 19:41-44 Part 1 of 2

But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. "How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation."

But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep.
Isaiah 22:4  That's why I said, "Leave me alone to weep; do not try to comfort me. Let me cry for my people as I watch them being destroyed."
Luke 13:34-35  "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God's messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn't let me. And now, look, your house is abandoned. And you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD!' "
John 11:35  Then Jesus wept. (see verses 1-44)
Hebrews 5:7-8  While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.

"How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace."
Deuteronomy 32:28-29  "But Israel is a senseless nation; the people are foolish, without understanding. Oh, that they were wise and could understand this! Oh, that they might know their fate!"

"But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes."
John 12:40  "The LORD has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts--so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them."

"Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side."
Isaiah 29:3  "I will be your enemy, surrounding Jerusalem and attacking its walls. I will build siege towers and destroy it."
Jeremiah 6:6  This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: "Cut down the trees for battering rams. Build siege ramps against the walls of Jerusalem. This is the city to be punished, for she is wicked through and through."
Luke 21:20  "And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived."
