As
Jesus was speaking, one of the Pharisees invited him home for a meal.
So he went in and took his place at the table. His host was amazed to
see that he sat down to eat without first performing the hand-washing
ceremony required by Jewish custom. Then the Lord said to him, "You
Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish,
but inside you are filthy--full of greed and wickedness! Fools! Didn't
God make the inside as well as the outside? So clean the inside by
giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over."
"So clean the inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will be clean all over."
Luke 12:33-34 "Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is there the desires of your heart will be also."
Daniel 4:27 " 'King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.' "
Matthew 15:10-11 Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. "Listen," he said, "and try to understand. It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth."
Romans 13:11-14 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
