"This
is what God in his wisdom said about you: 'I will send prophets and
apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.' As a
result this generation will be held responsible for the murder of all
God's prophets from the creation of the world--from the murder of Abel
to the murder of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the
sanctuary. Yes, it will certainly be charged against this generation."
" 'I will send prophets and apostles to them,' "
Acts 13:1 Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon (called "the black man"), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas), and Saul.
1 Corinthians 12:27-28 All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it. Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.
" 'but they will kill some and persecute the others.' "
Matthew 21:35 "But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another." [see verses 33-46]
Matthew 23:34 "Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city."
1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 And then, dear brothers and sisters, you suffered persecution from your own countrymen. In this way, you imitated the believers in God's churches in Judea who, because of their belief in Christ Jesus, suffered from their own people, the Jews. For some of the Jews killed the prophets, and some even killed the Lord Jesus. Now they have persecuted us, too. They fail to please God and work against all humanity as they try to keep us from preaching the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles. By doing this, they continue to pile up their sins. But the anger of God has caught up with them at last.
