That is why the LORD's anger burned against his people,
and he abhorred his own special possession.
He handed them over to pagan nations,
and they were ruled by those who hated them.
Their enemies crushed them
and brought them under their cruel power.
Again and again he rescued them,
but they chose to rebel against him,
and they were finally destroyed by their sin.
Again and again he rescued them, but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin.
Joshua 10:12-13 On the day the LORD gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the LORD in front of all the people of Israel. He said,
"Let the sun stand still over Gibeon,
and the moon over the valley of Aijalon."
So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies.
Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day. (see all chapter 10)
Judges 7:20-21 Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!" Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape.
(see all chapters 6-8)
Judges 10:10 Finally, they cried out to the LORD for help, saying, "We have sinned against you because we have abandoned you as our God and have served the images of Baal." (see chapters 10-16)
Nehemiah 9:28-31 "But as soon as they were at peace, your people again committed evil in your sight, and once more you let their enemies conquer them. Yet whenever your people turned and cried to you again for help, you listened once more from heaven. In your wonderful mercy, you rescued them many times!
"You warned them to return to your Law, but they became proud and obstinate and disobeyed your commands. They did not follow your regulations, by which people will find life if only they obey. They stubbornly turned their backs on you and refused to listen. In your love, you were patient with them for many years. You sent your Spirit, who warned them through the prophets. But still they wouldn't listen. So once again you allowed the people of the land to conquer them. But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!" (see all chapter 9)
Psalm 81:13-14
"Oh, that my people would listen to me!
Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
How quickly I would then subdue their enemies!
How soon my hands would be upon their foes! (see all Psalm 81)
