Some were fools; they rebelled
and suffered for their sins.

Exodus 23:21 "Pay close attention to him (see verse 20), and obey his instructions. Do not rebel against him, for he is my representative, and he will not forgive your rebellion." (see verses 20-33)
Numbers 17:10 And the LORD said to Moses: "Place Aaron's staff permanently before the Ark of the Covenant to serve as a warning to rebels. This should put an end to their complaint against me and prevent any further deaths." (see all chapter 17)
Deuteronomy 9:7 "Remember and never forget how angry you made the LORD your God out in the wilderness. From the day you left Egypt until now, you have been constantly rebelling against him." (see verses 7-29)
