He changes the rivers into deserts,
and springs of water into dry, thirsty land.
He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands,
because of the wickedness of those who live there.
But he also turns deserts into pools of water,
and dry land into springs of water.
He brings the hungry to settle there
and to build their cities.
They sow their fields, plant their vineyards,
and harvest their bumper crops.
How he blesses them!
They raise large families there,
and their herds of livestock increase.
He changes the rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry, thirsty land. He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there.
1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, "As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel lives--the God I serve--there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!" [see verses 1-7]
Psalm 74:15
You caused the springs and streams to gush forth,
and you dried up rivers that never run dry. [see all Psalm 74]
Isaiah 42:15
"I will level the mountains and hills
and blight all their greenery.
I will turn the rivers into dry land
and will dry up all the pools." [see verses 10-17]
Isaiah 50:2
"Why was no one there when I came?
Why didn't anyone answer when I called?
Is it because I have no power to rescue?
No, that is not the reason!
For I can speak to the sea and make it dry up!
I can turn rivers into deserts covered with dying fish." [see all chapter 50]
Genesis 13:10 Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of the Jordan Valley in the direction of Zoar. The whole area was well watered everywhere, like the garden of the LORD or the beautiful land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) [see verses 5-13]
Genesis 19:21-25 "All right," the angel said, "I will grant your request. I will not destroy the little village. But hurry! Escape to it, for I can do nothing until you arrive there." (This explains why that village was known as Zoar, which means "little place.")
Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon. Then the LORD rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah. He utterly destroyed them, along with other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation.
