Luke 20:23-26 Part 1 of 2

He saw through their trickery and said, "Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?"  "Caesar's," they replied. "Well then," he said, "give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God." So they failed to trap him by what he said in front of the people. Instead, they were amazed by his answer, and they became silent.

He saw through their trickery
Matthew 22:18  But Jesus knew their evil motives. "You hypocrites!" he said. "Why are you trying to trap me?"
Mark 12:15b  Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, "Why are you trying to trap me?"
1 Corinthians 3:19  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, "He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness." (Job 5:13)
2 Corinthians 4:2  We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don't try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.
2 Corinthians 11:3-4  But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. (see Genesis 3) You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.
Ephesians 4:14  Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. (see all of chapter 4)

and said, "Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?"  "Caesar's," they replied.
Matthew 22:19-21a  "Here, show me the coin used for the tax." When they handed him a Roman coin, he asked, "Whose picture and title are stamped on it?"  "Caesar's," they replied.
Mark 12:15c-16  "Show me a Roman coin, and I'll tell you." When they handed it to him, he asked, "Whose picture and title are stamped on it?"  "Caesar's," they replied.
