Luke 3:10-14 Part 3 of 3

The crowds asked, "What should we do?" John replied, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry." Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, "Teacher, what should we do?" He replied, "Collect no more taxes than the government requires."  "What should we do?" asked some soldiers. John replied, "Don't extort money or make false accusations. And be content with your pay."

Exodus 23:1  "You must not pass along false rumors. You must not cooperate with evil people by lying on the witness stand."

Exodus 20:16  "You must not testify falsely against your neighbor." (also Deuteronomy 5:20)

Leviticus 19:11-12  "Do not steal. Do not deceive or cheat one another. Do not bring shame on the name of your God by using it to swear falsely. I am the LORD."

Proverbs 19:5  A false witness will not go unpunished, nor will a liar escape. 

Matthew 19:17-19  "Why ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. But to answer your question--if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments."  "Which ones?" the man asked. And Jesus replied: "You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself."

Acts 6:11-12  So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, "We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God." This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council. (the Sanhedrin)
