Luke 3:7-9 Part 2 of 2

When the crowds came to John for baptism, he said, "You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee God's coming wrath? Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don't just say to each other, 'We're safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.' That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. Even now the ax of God's judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire."

"Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God."
Acts 26:20  "I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God--and prove they have changed by the good things they do."

"Don't just say to each other, 'We're safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.' "
Luke 19:9  Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham." (see verses 1-8)
John 8:39  "Our father is Abraham!" they declared. "No," Jesus replied, "for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example."
Romans 4:16  So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham's. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.
Galatians 3:6-7  In the same way, "Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith." (Genesis 15:6) The real children of Abraham, then, are those who put their faith in God.

"Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire."
Matthew 3:10  "Even now the ax of God's judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire."
John 15:1-2  "I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more."
John 15:5-6  "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned."
