Luke 6:24-26 Part 1 of 2

"What sorrow awaits you who are rich, for you have your only happiness now. What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now, for a time of awful hunger awaits you. What sorrow awaits you who laugh now, for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow. What sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds, for their ancestors also praised false prophets."

"What sorrow awaits you who are rich,"

James 5:1  Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. (see verses 2-6)

Amos 6:1  What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem, and you who feel secure in Samaria! You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help. (see verses 2-7)

Luke 16:25  "But Abraham said to him, 'Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish.' " (see verses 19-31) 

Matthew 6:2  "When you give to someone in need, don't do as the hypocrites do--blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get."

Isaiah 65:13  Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will starve. My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. My servants will rejoice, but you will be sad and ashamed."

Proverbs 14:13  Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter ends, the grief remains.

Isaiah 65:14  "My servants will sing for joy, but you will cry in sorrow and despair."

James 4:9  Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.
