"Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest. "But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God."
Romans 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes--the Jew first and also the Gentile. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."
Galatians 3:11  So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."

Habakkuk 2:2-3 Part 2 of 2

Then the LORD said to me, "Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed."

"If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,"

"for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed."

I will call a swift bird of prey from the east--a leader from a distant land to come and do my bidding. I have said what I would do, and I will do it." (see all chapter 46)
Jeremiah 16:9  "For this is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: In your own lifetime, before your very eyes, I will put an end to the happy singing and laughter in this land. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard." (see verses 5-13)
Hebrews 10:37  "For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay." (see verses 19-39)
2 Peter 3:3-4  Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, "What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created."
2 Peter 3:8-9  But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. Habakkuk 1:14-17 Part 2 of 2

Are we only fish to be caught and killed? Are we only sea creatures that have no leader? Must we be strung up on their hooks and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate? Then they will worship their nets and burn incense in front of them. "These nets are the gods who have made us rich!" they will claim. Will you let them get away with this forever? Will they succeed forever in their heartless conquests?

To an image carved from a piece of wood they say, 'You are my father.' To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say, 'You are my mother.' They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me, 'Come and save us!' But why not call on these gods you have made? When trouble comes, let them save you if they can! For you have as many gods as there are towns in Judah." (See all chapter 2)

So go ahead and carry out your promises and vows to her!' " (see chapters 42-44)

Habakkuk 1:12-13 Part 2 of 2

O LORD my God, my Holy One, you who are eternal--surely you do not plan to wipe us out? O LORD, our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins. But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?

But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil.

Will you wink at their treachery?

O LORD my God, my Holy One, you who are eternal--surely you do not plan to wipe us out? O LORD, our Rock, you have sent these Babylonians to correct us, to punish us for our many sins. Habakkuk 1:9-11 Part 2 of 2

"On they come, all bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind, sweeping captives ahead of them like sand. They scoff at kings and princes and scorn all their fortresses. Daniel 4:30-32  "As he (King Nebuchadnezzar) looked out across the city, he said, 'Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.' While the words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven, 'O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom. You will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.' " (see all chapter 4)

Habakkuk 1:5-8 Part 3 of 3

The LORD replied, "Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe even if someone told you about it. I am raising up the Babylonians, a cruel and violent people. They will march across the world and conquer other lands. They are notorious for their cruelty and do whatever they like. Their horses are swifter than cheetahs and fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their charioteers charge from far away. Like eagles, they swoop down to devour their prey."

Jeremiah 5:6  So now a lion from the forest will attack them; a wolf from the desert will pounce on them. A leopard will lurk near their towns, tearing apart any who dare to venture out. For their rebellion is great, and their sins are many. (see verses 1-31)
Jeremiah 5:8-10  "And now the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: Because you have not listened to me, I will gather together all the armies of the north under King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, whom I have appointed as my deputy. I will bring them all against this land and its people and against the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy you and make you an object of horror and contempt and a ruin forever. I will take away your happy singing and laughter. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard. Your millstones will fall silent, and the lights in your homes will go out. This entire land will become a desolate wasteland. Israel and her neighboring lands will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years." (see verses 1-38)
Zephaniah 3:1-3  What sorrow awaits rebellious, polluted Jerusalem, the city of violence and crime! No one can tell it anything; it refuses all correction. Habakkuk 1:5-8 Part 2 of 3

The LORD replied, "Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn't believe even if someone told you about it. Yet Nebuchadnezzar and his army won no plunder to compensate them for all their work. Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. He will carry off its wealth, plundering everything it has so he can pay his army. Yes, I have given him the land of Egypt as a reward for his work, says the Sovereign LORD, because he was working for me when he destroyed Tyre."

I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their other enemies. He will slaughter them and show them no mercy, pity, or compassion.' " (see verses 1-14)
Jeremiah 39:5-7  But the Babylonian troops chased the king and caught him on the plains of Jericho. They took him to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who was at Riblah in the land of Hamath. There the king of Babylon pronounced judgment upon Zedekiah. He made Zedekiah watch as they slaughtered his sons and all the nobles of Judah. Then they gouged out Zedekiah's eyes, bound him in bronze chains, and led him away to Babylon. (see verses 1-10)

Habakkuk 1:3-4 Part 2 of 2

Must I forever see these evil deeds? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.

The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts.
Psalm 119:126  LORD, it is time for you to act, for these evil people have violated your instructions.
Isaiah 5:23  They take bribes to let the wicked go free, and they punish the innocent. (see verses 18-30)

Amos 5:10  How you hate honest judges! How you despise people who tell the truth!

Psalm 58:1-2  Justice--do you rulers know the meaning of the word? Do you judge the people fairly? No! You plot injustice in your hearts. You spread violence throughout the land. (see verses 1-11)
Psalm 94:20-21  Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side--leaders whose decrees permit injustice? They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. (see verses 1-23)
Isaiah 59:14-15  Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The LORD looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. (see verses 1-21, also 1:23, 10:1-2)

Habakkuk 1:3-4 Part 1 of 2

Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.

Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery?
Habakkuk 1:13  But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?

Psalm 55:11  Everything is falling apart; threats and cheating are rampant in the streets. (see verses 1-11)
Jeremiah 20:8  When I speak, the words burst out. "Violence and destruction!" I shout. So these messages from the LORD have made me a household joke. (see verses 1-11)

I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.
Psalm 59:6-7  They come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. "After all, who can hear us?" they sneer. (see verses 1-17)
Isaiah 5:20  What sorrow for those who say that evil is good, and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. (see verses 8-30)
Jeremiah 6:6-7  This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: "Cut down the trees for battering rams. Build siege ramps against the walls of Jerusalem. This city is to be punished, for she is wicked through and through. She spouts evil like a fountain. Her streets echo with the sounds of violence and destruction. I always see her sickness and sores." (see verses 1-15)
Ezekiel 7:11  "Their violence has grown into a rod that will beat them for their wickedness. None of these proud and wicked people will survive. All their wealth and prestige will be swept away." (see verses 1-13)

Habakkuk 1:1-2

This is the message that the prophet Habakkuk received in a vision. How long, O LORD, must I call for help? But you do not listen! "Violence is everywhere!" I cry, but you do not come to save.

This is the message that the prophet Habakkuk received in a vision.
Nahum 1:1  This message concerning Nineveh came as a vision to Nahum, who lived in Elkosh.

Zechariah 12:1  This message concerning the fate of Israel came from the LORD: "This message is from the LORD, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit." (see all chapter 12)

Zechariah 1:12  Upon hearing this (verses 7-11), the angel of the LORD prayed this prayer: "O LORD of Heaven's Armies, for seventy years now you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. How long until you again show mercy to them?"
Psalm 12:1-2  O LORD, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? (see all chapter 12)

But you do not listen!
Job 19:7  "I cry out, 'Help!' but no one answers me. I protest, but there is no justice." (see verses 1-12)
Psalm 22:2  Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief. (see all chapter 22)

"Violence is everywhere!" I cry, but you do not come to save.

Luke 24:50-53

Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.

Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven.
2 Kings 2:11  As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven. (see verses 1-18)
Mark 16:19  When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand.
Acts 1:9-11  After saying this (see verses 6-8), he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go."

So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy.
Matthew 28:8-9  The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message. And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.

And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.
Acts 2:46-47  They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity--all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Acts 3:1  Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o'clock service. (see all chapter 3)

Luke 24:49

"And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."

Joel 2:28-29  "Then, after doing all these things (see verses 18-27), I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants--men and women alike." (see verses 28-32)
Isaiah 32:14-15  The palace and the city will be deserted, and busy towns will be empty. Wild donkeys will frolic and flocks will graze in the empty forts and watchtowers until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops. (see all chapter 32)
John 14:16-17  "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you."
John 14:25-26  "I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative--that is, the Holy Spirit--he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you."
Acts 2:33  "Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God's right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today." (see all chapter 2)
Ephesians 1:12-14  God's purpose (see verses 9-11) was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
