Habakkuk 1:9-11 Part 2 of 2

"On they come, all bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind, sweeping captives ahead of them like sand. They scoff at kings and princes and scorn all their fortresses. They simply pile ramps of earth against their walls and capture them! They sweep past like the wind and are gone. But they are deeply guilty, for their own strength is their god."

"They sweep past like the wind and are gone."
Jeremiah 4:11-12  The time is coming when the LORD will say to the people of Jerusalem, "My dear people, a burning wind is blowing in from the desert, and it's not a gentle breeze useful for winnowing grain. It is a roaring blast sent by me! Now I will pronounce your destruction!" (see verses 3-18)
Hosea 13:15  "Ephraim was the most fruitful of all his brothers, but the east wind--a blast from the LORD--will arise in the desert. All their flowing springs will run dry, and all their wells will disappear. Every precious thing they own will be plundered and carried away." (see all chapter 13)

"But they are deeply guilty, for their own strength is their god."
Deuteronomy 8:17  "He did all this (see verses 14-16) so you would never say to yourself, 'I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.' " (see verses 1-20)
Deuteronomy 32:26-27  " 'I would have annihilated them, wiping out even the memory of them. But I feared the taunt of Israel's enemy, who might misunderstand and say, "Our own power has triumphed! The LORD had nothing to do with this!" ' " (see verses 1-44)
Isaiah 10:13  He (the king of Assyria) boasts, "By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull." (see verses 5-34)
Isaiah 47:7  "You said, 'I will reign forever as queen of the world!' You did not reflect on your actions or think about their consequences." (see all chapter 47)
Ezekiel 28:2  "Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign LORD: In your great pride you claim, 'I am a god! I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.' But you are only a man and not a god, though you boast that you are a god." (see verses 1-10)
Daniel 4:30-32  "As he (King Nebuchadnezzar) looked out across the city, he said, 'Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.' While the words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven, 'O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom. You will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.' " (see all chapter 4)
