Habakkuk 2:4-5 Part 2 of 2

"Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest. They open their mouths as wide as the grave, and like death, they are never satisfied. In their greed they have gathered up many nations and swallowed many peoples."

Isaiah 2:11  Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the LORD will be exalted on that day of judgment. (see verses 5-22)

Nehemiah 9:29  "You warned them to return to your Law, but they became proud and obstinate and disobeyed your commands. They did not follow your regulations, by which people will find life if only they obey. They stubbornly turned their backs on you and refused to listen." (see all chapter 9)

Jeremiah 43:2  Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, "You lie! The LORD our God hasn't forbidden us to go to Egypt!" (see all chapters 42-44)

 

"They opened their mouths as wide as the grave, and like death, they are never satisfied." 

Psalm 49:14  Like sheep, they are led to the grave, where death will be their shepherd. In the morning the godly will rule over them. Their bodies will rot in the grave, far from their grand estates. (see all chapter 49)

Proverbs 27:20  Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied.

Proverbs 30:15-16  The leech has two suckers that cry out, "More, more!" There are three things that are never satisfied--no, four that never say, "Enough!": the grave, the barren womb, the thirsty desert, the blazing fire.

Isaiah 5:14  The grave is licking its lips in anticipation, opening its mouth wide. The great and the lowly and all the drunken mob will be swallowed up. (see all chapter 5)

Isaiah 14:9  "In the place of the dead there is excitement over your arrival. The spirits of world leaders and mighty kings long dead stand up to see you." (see verses 3-23)
