Habakkuk 1:14-17 Part 1 of 2

Are we only fish to be caught and killed? Are we only sea creatures that have no leader? Must we be strung up on their hooks and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate? Then they will worship their nets and burn incense in front of them. "These nets are the gods who have made us rich!" they will claim. Will you let them get away with this forever? Will they succeed forever in their heartless conquests?

Are we only fish to be caught and killed? Are we only sea creatures that have no leader? Must we be strung up on their hooks and caught in their nets while they rejoice and celebrate?
Psalm 10:9  Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets. (see verses 1-11)
Psalm 140:5  The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. (see verses 1-5)
Jeremiah 5:26  "Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind. They continually set traps to catch people." (see verses 26-31)
Jeremiah 16:16-17  "But now I am sending for many fishermen who will catch them," says the LORD. "I am sending for hunters who will  hunt them down in the mountains, hills, and caves. I am watching them closely, and I see every sin. They cannot hope to hide from me." (see verses 5-18)
Amos 4:2  The Sovereign LORD has sworn this by his holiness: "The time will come when you will be led away with hooks in your noses. Every last one of you will be dragged away like a fish on a hook!" (see all chapter 4)

Then they will worship their nets and burn incense in front of them. "These nets are the gods who have made us rich!" they will claim.
Jeremiah 2:26-28  "Israel is like a thief who feels shame only when he gets caught. They, their kings, officials, priests, and prophets--all are alike in this. To an image carved from a piece of wood they say, 'You are my father.' To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say, 'You are my mother.' They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me, 'Come and save us!' But why not call on these gods you have made? When trouble comes, let them save you if they can! For you have as many gods as there are towns in Judah." (See all chapter 2)
Jeremiah 44:24-25  Then Jeremiah said to them all, including the women, "Listen to this message from the LORD, all you citizens of Judah who live in Egypt. This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: 'You and your wives have said, "We will keep our promises to burn incense and pour out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven," and you have proved by your actions that you meant it. So go ahead and carry out your promises and vows to her!' " (see chapters 42-44)
