When
he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual
to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The
scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll
and found the place where this was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is
upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has
sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will
see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the
LORD's favor has come." He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the
attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him
intently. Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just
heard has been fulfilled this very day!"
"for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor."
Mark 16:15 And then he told them, "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone."
Matthew 11:4-5 Jesus told them, "Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen--the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor."
Luke 6:20 Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said, "God blesses you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours."
"He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,"
Psalm 146:7-8 He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the godly.
"that the blind will see,"
Isaiah 42:7 "You will open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons."
John 9:39 Then Jesus told him, "I entered this world to render judgment--to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind."
Acts 26:18 " '...to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God's people, who are set apart by faith in me (Jesus).' "
