When
he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual
to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The
scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll
and found the place where this was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is
upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has
sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will
see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the
LORD's favor has come." He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the
attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him
intently. Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just
heard has been fulfilled this very day!"
He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down.
Matthew 5:1-2 One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.
Matthew 13:2 A large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat there and taught as the people stood on the shore.
All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently.
Acts 3:4-5 Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, "Look at us!" The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.
Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled this very day!"
Isaiah 53:10-11 But it was the LORD's good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the LORD's good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.
John 3:16-17 "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him."
