Luke 18:13-14 Part 1 of 2

"But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.' I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

"But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow,"
Ezra 9:5-6  At the time of the sacrifice, I stood up from where I had sat in mourning with my clothes torn. I fell to my knees and lifted up my hands to the LORD my God. I prayed, "O my God, I am utterly ashamed; I blush to lift up my face to you. For our sins are piled higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached to the heavens."
Psalm 51:1  Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.
Psalm 79:9  Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name.
Isaiah 66:2b  "I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word."
Jeremiah 31:18-19  "I have heard Israel saying, 'You disciplined me severely, like a calf that needs training for the yoke. Turn me again to you and restore me, for you alone are the LORD my God. I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.' "
Ezekiel 16:63  "You will remember your sins and cover your mouth in silent shame when I forgive you of all that you have done. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!"
Daniel 9:18-19  "O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city--the city that bears your name--lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy. O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God, for your people and your city bear your name." (see verses 1-27)
1 Timothy 1:15-16  This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners"--and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
