Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, "Pray that you will not give in to temptation." He walked away, about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed," Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."

Luke 22:39-42 Part 1 of 2

Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, "Pray that you will not give in to temptation." He walked away, about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed," Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."

Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives.
Matthew 24:3  Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?" (See Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21)

He took Peter and Zebedee's two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." (see Mark 14:32-34)
Matthew 26:40-41  Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Couldn't you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak." (see also Mark 14:37-38)
1 Peter 4:7  The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

Luke 22:35-38

Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler's bag, or an extra pair of sandals, did you need anything?"  "No," they replied. "But now," he said, "take your money and a traveler's bag. And if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one! For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: 'He was counted among the rebels.' Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true."  "Look, Lord," they replied, "we have two swords among us."  "That's enough," he said.

Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler's bag, or an extra pair of sandals, did you need anything?"  "No," they replied.
Matthew 10:9-10  "Don't take any money in your money belts--no gold, silver, or even copper coins. Don't carry a traveler's bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed." (see also Mark 6:8, Luke 9:3, 10:4)

"But now," he said, "take your money and a traveler's bag. And if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!"
Matthew 10:34-36  "Don't imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. 'I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Your enemies will be right in your own households! (Micah 7:6)' " (see also Mark 13:12-13, Luke 12:49-53)

"For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: 'He was counted among the rebels.' Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true.

Matthew 27:38  Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and the other on his left. (see also Mark 15:27, Luke 23:32, John 19:18)
Luke 24:44  Then he said, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. (see verses 13-49)
Luke 13:33  "Yes, today, tomorrow, and the next day I must proceed on my way. For it wouldn't do for a prophet of God to be killed except in Jerusalem!"

"Look, Lord," they replied, "we have two swords among us."  "That's enough," he said.
Luke 22:49-50  When the other disciples saw what was about to happen, they exclaimed, "Lord, should we fight? We brought the swords!" And one of them struck at the high priest's slave, slashing off his right ear. (see also Matthew 26:51, Mark 14:47, John 18:10)

Luke 22:31-34 Part 3 of 3

"Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers." Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you." But Jesus said, "Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."

Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you."

Matthew 26:35  "No!" Peter insisted. "Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!" And all the other disciples vowed the same. [see also Mark 14:31]
John 13:37  "But why can't I come now, Lord?" he asked. "I'm ready to die for you."
Acts 12:1-4  About that time [see chapter 11:27-30] King Herod Agrippa began to persecute some believers in the church. He had the apostle James (John's brother) killed with a sword. When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter. (This took place during the Passover celebration.) Then he imprisoned him, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring Peter out for public trial after the Passover. [see verses 1-19]

But Jesus said, "Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."
Matthew 26:34  Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, Peter--this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me." [see also Mark 14:30]
John 13:38  Jesus answered, "Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter--before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me."

So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers." Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you." "But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail."
John 17:9-11  "My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are." (see all chapter 17)
Romans 8:34  Who then will condemn us? No one--for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God's right hand, pleading for us. (see all of chapter 8)

Hebrews 9:24  For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. (see verses 24-28)

"So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers."
John 21:15-19  After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?"  "Yes, Lord," Peter replied, "you know I love you."  "Then feed my lambs," Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: "Simon son of John, do you love me?"  "Yes, Lord, Peter said, "you know I love you."  "Then take care of my sheep," Jesus said. A third time he asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you." Jesus said, "Then feed my sheep. I tell you the truth, when you were young you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don't want to go." Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, "Follow me."

1 Peter 5:8-9  Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Luke 22:24-27 Part 2 of 2

Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.' But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves."

Luke 22:21-23

"But here at this table, sitting among us as a friend, is the man who will betray me. For it has been determined that the Son of Man must die. But what sorrow awaits the one who betrays him." The disciples began to ask each other which of them would ever do such a thing.

"For it has been determined that the Son of Man must die. But what sorrow awaits the one who betrays him."

Luke 22:17-20

Luke 22:7-12

Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread arrived, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together."  "Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him. He replied, "As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him. At the house he enters, say to the owner, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?' He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal."

Deuteronomy 16:1-3  "In honor of the LORD your God, celebrate the Passover each year in the early spring, in the month Abib, for that was the month in which the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night. Your Passover sacrifice may be from either the flock or the herd, and it must be sacrificed to the LORD your God at the designated place of worship--the place he chooses his name to be honored. Eat it with bread made without yeast. For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast, as when you escaped from Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread--the bread of suffering--so that as long as you live you will remember the day you departed from Egypt." (see verses 1-8, also see Exodus 12)

Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together."  "Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him.

Mark 14:13  So Jesus sent two of them into Jerusalem with these instructions: "As you go into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him."

"At the house he enters, say to the owner, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?' "
Matthew 26:18  "As you go into the city," he told them, "you will see a certain man. Tell him, 'The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with my disciples at your house.' "
Mark 14:14  "At the house he enters, say to the owner, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?' "

"He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal."

For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don't belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clear-headed. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. (see verses 1-11)

Luke 21:29-33 Part 2 of 2

Then he gave them this illustration: "Notice the fig tree, or any other tree. When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things taking place (see verses 5-36), you can know that the Kingdom of God is near. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear."

(Isaiah 40:8)" And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. (see verses 3-25)
