Luke 22:24-27 Part 1 of 2

Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.' But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves."

 

They began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them.

Mark 8:34  Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." (see verses 34-38)

Mark 9:33-34  After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, "What were you discussing on the road?" But they didn't answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.

Luke 9:46  Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest.

 

Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.' " 

Ezekiel 34:4  "You have not taken care of the weak. You have not tended the sick or bound up the injured. You have not gone looking for those who have wandered away and are lost. Instead, you have ruled them with harshness and cruelty." (see verses 1-10)

Matthew 20:25  But Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them." (see also Mark 10:42)

1 Peter 5:5-6  You (rich people) have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed innocent people, who do not resist you. (see verses 1-6)

 

"But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant." 

Matthew 20:26-27  "But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave." (see Mark 9:35, 10:43-44)

Matthew 23:11  "The greatest among you must be a servant."
