Luke 16:13-15 Part 1 of 3

"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him. Then he said to them, "You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God."

"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Luke 16:9  "Here's the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home." (See also Matthew 6:24)

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money,
1 Timothy 3:3  He (an elder) must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money. (see verses 1-7)
1 Timothy 6:9-10  But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
2 Timothy 3:2  For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. (see verses 1-9)
Hebrews 13:5  Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you, I will never abandon you."
1 Peter 5:2  Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly--not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.

heard all this and scoffed at him.
Luke 23:35  The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. "He saved others," they said, "let him save himself if he is really God's Messiah, the Chosen One." (see verses 26-49)
Psalm 22:6-8  But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all! Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, "Is this the one who relies on the LORD? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!"
Psalm 22:17  I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. (see all of Psalm 22)
