James 4:4-5 Part 2 of 2

You adulterers! Don't you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?

... makes you an enemy of God?
Romans 8:6-8  So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. (see Romans 7:14-8:17)
1 John 2:15-16  Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. (see verses 15-27)
1 John 5:19  We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. (see all chapter 5)

I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
John 15:19  "The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you." (see verses 18-27)
Matthew 6:24  "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (see verses 19-34)

What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?
Romans 14:7-8  For we don't live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it's to honor the Lord. And if we die, it's to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (see all chapter 14)
1 Corinthians 6:18-20  Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. (see verses 12-20)
