James 4:8-10 Part 2 of 3

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

 

Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts,

Isaiah 1:16  Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. (see verses 2-20)

Psalm 24:3-4  Who may climb the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. (see all Psalm 24)

Jeremiah 4:14  O Jerusalem, cleanse your heart that you may be saved. How long will you harbor your evil thoughts? (see verses 1-18)

Isaiah 15:2  Your people (Moab) will go to their temple in Dibon to mourn. They will go to their sacred shrines to weep. They will wail for the fate of Nebo and Medeba, shaving their heads in sorrow and cutting off their beards. (see all chapter 15)

Isaiah 22:4  That's why I said, "Leave me alone to weep; do not try to comfort me. Let me cry for my people (Jerusalem) as I watch them being destroyed." (see verses 22-30)

Jeremiah 6:26  Oh, my people (Jerusalem), dress yourselves in burlap and sit among the ashes. Mourn and weep bitterly, as for the loss of an only son. For suddenly the destroying armies will be upon you! (see verses 22-30)

Luke 6:25  "What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now, for a time of awful hunger awaits you. What sorrow awaits you who laugh now, for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow." (see verses 24-26)
